Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr. (born on September 27, 1982), also known by his rap name Lil Wayne, is an American rapper. Once a member of the rap group the Hot Boys, he joined the Cash Money Records as a teenager. He worked with BG on the album "True Story" and eventually recorded for the label Cash Money. "Get It How U Live", released in 1997, was Lil Wayne's 1st album with Hot-Boys, and "Tha Block is Hot", his solo release, came out 1999. "Tha Block Is Hot" debuted in the top 10 on the Billboard 200 chart and Weezy was nominated for "Best New Artist" from The Source Mag the same year. Following this success, Wayne soon featured on other rappers' singles, including "Bling Bling" by B.G. and "#1 Stunna" by the Big Tymers in 2000.
Lil Wayne takes home the 17th spot on this years LA Times top-grossing pop acts list. The list combines sales of concert tickets, albums and digital downloads to measure which acts were most popular with the broadest swath of music lovers. Weezy not only took home the 17th slot, but was the only rapper in the top 20.
